eLearning Faculty Academy
The eLearning Faculty Academy is a training initiative developed by the Center for
Teaching and Learning (CTL), with support from the college-wide Distance Education
Committee (DEC). The term "eLearning" covers fully online and hybrid/blended courses.
The purpose of the Academy is two-fold:
- Equip faculty who are new to eLearning with the tools to develop courses and effectively
use their teaching talents in an online format.
- Introduce new innovations to "veteran" eLearning faculty who are dedicated to significantly
revising their courses.
The main goals of the Academy are to provide:
- All participants with an overview of eLearning at the College;
- Best practices for teaching in an online learning environment; and
- Support from CTL staff in best practices for building and teaching online courses.
Time commitment and obligations:
The eLearning Faculty Academy will operate as a fully asynchronous program with content
in Brightspace. All assessments must be completed by the due dates indicated in the
eLearning academy course.
Deliverables:
At the end of the Academy, each participant will have completed the following:
- Course alignment map
- ADA-compliant course outline
- "Welcome"/bio video
- Icebreaker discussion board
- Course Information module
- Two instructional modules
Successful completion of the above requirements will result in conditional certification
to teach one online/hybrid/blended course.
How to apply:
To apply for enrollment in the eLearning Faculty Academy, faculty must fill out a
course assignment or course development form and a course outline rubric. These forms,
along with the DE Guide, are found on the Online Faculty page on MySCCC. Log into
