Trio to be Honored at Golf Classic Reception for Daring Rescue.
The reception and awards ceremony will be Monday, August 25 at the Hamlet Golf and Country Club in Commack after completion of the golf classic. Suffolk County Fourth Precinct Police Officers David Vlacich and Bryan Boudreaux responding to call about a multi-vehicle car crash and fire at Route 25 and Moriches Rd. in Lake Grove arrived to find 23-year-old Stephanie McNamee unconscious and trapped in her burning, blue Ford Focus.
A good Samaritan, David Ayala, 38, arrived moments before the police and was attempting to help the victim. Working together, while the car continued to burn and potentially explode, the three freed the victim and carried her to safety. The victim recovered from her injuries.
鈥淥fficers Vlacich, Boudreaux and good Samaritan David Ayala will be commended for their quick and heroic actions by entering a burning vehicle and rescuing a trapped and unconscious victim,鈥 said 秘色传媒 president Dr. Shaun L. McKay. It is an honor to welcome them to our post event reception and celebration.鈥
鈥淚t is my honor and pleasure to take part in 秘色传媒鈥檚 annual golf tournament benefit,鈥 said Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory. 鈥淭he community college is a critical part of our county鈥檚 infrastructure and offers the education and training our young people need if they are going to be prepared to take the good-paying jobs they need to stay here on Long Island. It鈥檚 the only way we will plug the debilitating brain drain that plagues us. And it will be my great pleasure at the upcoming event to honor two County Police officers and a good Samaritan who rescued a 23-year-old Holtsville woman from her burning car after a November 21, 2013 crash in Lake Grove. These three men are true heroes.鈥
The proceeds from the Golf Classic will support needs-based and merit-based scholarships, emergency student loans and academic enrichment programs for Suffolk County Community College students.
The Suffolk Community College Foundation distributed more than $500,000 in scholarships
