Welding

In this one-semester program, students will learn the basics of Shielded Metal Arc Welding in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS) standards. AWS certification is offered to those students who pass qualification. Starting salary is approximately $73,000.

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining

Students within this one-semester program will learn how to use pre-programmed computer software with high-tech equipment in order to manufacture specialized products for a wide variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, construction, marine and more. Average starting salary is approximately $60,000.

Electronic Assembly

This one-semester program prepares students to become IPC- certified electronic assemblers in the field of commercial electronics. Students who pass the exam will be qualified to work as a soldering specialist, and more. Starting salary for electronic assemblers is approximately $48,000.

Health IT Assistant

Students will be introduced to eClinics, an electronic health record practice management software system used in the medical field and will gain the practical skills required to become a Medical Records Analyst or Records Director. Upon completion of this program, students may look to expand their salary potential by applying to the college’s Health Information Technology degree program. Annual median salary is approximately $76,850.

Medical Billing and Coding

As the healthcare industry continues to grow, the need for qualified medical billing and coding specialists increases as well. The Medical Billing & Coding Certificate Program prepares graduates with the technical skills needed to have a successful career in medical billing and coding in a variety of healthcare settings, including physician offices, hospitals, insurance companies, medical billing service departments and other health related facilities.

Ophthalmic Technician Assistant

This program provides students with the skills necessary to obtain employment in optical centers under the supervision of a licensed optician; or in an ophthalmic office as an ophthalmic assistant. Annual median salary is approximately $46,200.

Clinical Medical Assisting

Clinical medical assistants (CMAs) see patients at the beginning and end of medical visits and are critical to ensuring satisfactory care. CMAs who apply to Suffolk’s nursing degree program may receive additional points on their application. CMAs earn an annual median salary of approximately $37,860.

Dietary Manager

This two-semester program trains food service managers for a career as a Dietary Manager within schools, health care facilities and more. Median annual salary is approximately $62,000. Many students who complete the program choose to expand their earnings potential by applying for the college’s Dietetic Technician degree program.

Pharmacy Technician Assistant

Students within this two-semester program receive the experience necessary to work in a pharmacy under the supervision of a registered pharmacist or licensed pharmacy technician. Annual median salary is approximately $36,790.

Solar Panel Installer

Interest in solar heating continues to grow and this 50-hour, hands-on program is taught by industry experts. It includes a paid externship with a local solar company. Experienced installers typically earn approximately $55,000 per year.

Emergency Medical Technician

This one-semester course will prepare a student to become certified as a New York State EMT. Many students then transition into the college’s Paramedic degree program. EMTs on Long Island may volunteer in local fire and ambulance districts. Those seeking salaried employment have options that include paid positions in fire/EMS districts, commercial ambulance services, and hospital-based EMS providers. Salary ranges from $37,000 - $60,000.

The 10-week Entrepreneurial Assistance program offers training courses, as well as technical and management seminars, to those who are interested in starting or expanding their own businesses. Students receive one-on-one counseling, assistance with packaging business loans, mentor support and more.
