Mission

The Division of Study Abroad offers curricula-based credit-bearing opportunities to ÃØÉ«´«Ã½/SUNY students interested in becoming global learners. The Study Abroad program offerings focus on teaching students how to engage with local and global communities, provide opportunities to develop critical thinking skills, and foster personal and academic growth through disciplinary scholarship, language training and cultural immersion. 

Goals and Outcomes

Goal 1:

Provide students with safe, affordable, geographically diverse, academically rigorous academic experiences abroad to enhance students’ learning and success at Suffolk County Community College and support students’ interest in becoming globally engaged, culturally aware citizens.

Learning Outcomes:

LO 1.1: Students will learn how to function in new cultural and learning environments and successfully achieve their desired educational goals in safe yet unfamiliar settings.

LO 1.2: Students will practice/apply classroom-acquired knowledge and skills in subject matters/areas that are culturally and (or) geographically specific and are best learned through full immersion (languages, industry specific skills etc.).

LO 1.3 Students will build capacity to see the world through different cultural lenses and identify how cultural differences impact ways in which people think, communicate and collaborate.

Goal 2:

Continuously promote the value of global learning among ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ students to increase interest/enrollment in Study Abroad offerings across all campuses and within SUNY system.

Learning Outcome:

LO 2.1: Students will be able to plan for their Study Abroad experiences earlier and better integrate those experiences into their academic planning.

Support Outcomes:

SO 2.1: Faculty will be able to identify students' needs/interests based on continuous monitoring of students’ interest in Study Abroad, and will adequately address those needs/interests while developing Study Abroad offerings.

SO 2.2: ÃØÉ«´«Ã½ will monitor its progress against SUNY Global strategic goals and objectives and adequately address needs to successfully achieve expected outcomes.
